Modeling Physics Mechanics Storyline

This page is under construction. I’m working on using a timeline plugin to show the Modeling Instruction storyline for the Mechanics units in physics.

Unit 1Introduction to the modeling classroom

Mechanics Unit 1: Intro to the modeling classroom

In the first unit, students are introduced to the practices and procedures of the class: creating a lab conducting the lab analyzing their data sharing their data with the class (in a whiteboard meeting) discussing the data, focusing on looking for similarities, then differences (in the whiteboard meeting developing class-wide conclusions, and modifying individual/group conclusions (This page is under construction,..Read More

    Mechanics Unit 2Constant Velocity Model

Mechanics Unit 2: Constant Velocity Model

Unit 2 introduces the study of moving objects. Students develop a model that includes a position/time graph and the “y=mx+b” equation format as the mathematical representation of our model. Vocabulary includes: position velocity time slope y-intercept average velocity

    Mechanics Unit 3: Constant acceleration

To introduce Unit 3, students are exposed to a car rolling down a ramp, to discover a situation where their constant velocity model no longer works.
