A concept map for the Modeling cycle

At the AAPT meeting in Ann Arbor, I presented a poster on concept mapping in physics classes. An idea that arose there was the creation of a concept map of the ASU Modeling Cycle, so I created one. Take a look and let me know what you think. I’ll probably make adjustments to it when I get suggestions.

  1. In the sense of classical Gowin and Novak concept maps, what is the focus question this concept map addresses?

How is this map different from a cyclical flow chart of the modeling process?

I know nothing about the ASU modeling cycle so I am coming to this pair of concept maps from utter ignorance.

  2. MarcC, you’re correct. This is more of a flow chart than a concept map. I was more showing what could be done with the CmapTools program.

    • I do agree that your circular map is great fun. I asked because my Cmap Tools concept maps regularly get so large that I have to switch over to the force-directed automatic layout features to be able to view my maps without dozens of crossing lines.
